a (job)hunting we will go
If this first week of the new year is any sign, I will be quite busy this year. I am putting my efforts in looking for work into full gear and took a test for WIA at the Northside Workforce center in hopes of getting a voucher for obtaining an appropriate education for my impending career change.
I am trying to be as strategic as possible as I am looking at the healthcare field to find gainful, steady and stable employment for the shelflife that I have left.
After 31 years working for the same company, starting as a shipping clerk, learning a useful but limited craft in manufacturing hand-embossers(corporate, notary, architect and land surveyor seals, et al) and finally for the last 6 years evolving into a multitasking operations manager, maintaining inventory, troubleshooting computer problems, printing certificates using QuarkExpress and Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat, customer service, any and everything relating to operating a business from soup to nuts, as they say.
I have to thank the people that purchased the company for having the confidence in me to provide me the opportunity to show them that I was more than capable to fulfill these tasks.
Unfortunately, with the economy tanking, I read the writing on the wall before they told me that they were moving the manufacturing operations back to their New York facilities.
And here I am, jobless in Chicago, but NOT without hope. I am confident that I will find employment or at least get a chance to change my career via the voucher that can be provided by WIA.
With a job in healthcare, I would then be able to find employment much easier than most other fields during these hard economic times.
In the meantime, of course, I am still seeking gainful employment and am budgeting the limited resources that I am getting from the state.
There are still a lot of opportunities to get help here in Chicag and for that I am grateful.
I wish to thank all the staff at the Northside Workforce Center for their assistance and their great attitude that they exhibit. It does help the people that come in for help to see people that are genuinely happy to aid them in their search for assistance.
That is about it for now, as I am going to a few places downtown and fill out some job applications.
Have a great day one and all. Wish me luck and if you are looking for qwork as well, good luck to you, too!
